Mayabunder, May 26: On 25.05.2026, acting on credible information regarding transportation of illicit ganja by a passenger travelling onboard MV Nalanda from Kolkata, a special raiding team of PS Mayabunder was constituted under the direction of Shri Vikas Swami, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
Accordingly, a police team led by Inspector R.K. Mazumder, SHO PS Mayabunder, conducted checking of deboarding passengers at Mayabunder jetty in the presence of independent witnesses. During the search operation, a suspicious passenger carrying a trolley suitcase was intercepted.
Upon search, a bag containing approximately one kg of illicit Ganja was recovered from the suitcase. The recovered substance tested positive for Ganja during preliminary examination. The contraband was duly seized, and the individual was arrested under relevant sections of NDPS Act after observing all codal formalities. Further investigation is in progress.
The operation highlights the continued vigilance and zero-tolerance policy of North & Middle Andaman District Police against drug-related offences in the area.
