Islanders Advised to Reduce Consumption of Edible Oil by at least 10% Based on Call to the Citizens by Prime Minister

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 27: The general public of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been advised to reduce daily edible oil consumption by at least 10% and adopt healthier dietary habits.

The Hon’ble Prime Minister has urged citizens to reduce edible oil consumption as part of the vision for a healthier and self-reliant India under Viksit Bharat 2047. Excessive consumption of edible oil and repeated reuse of cooking oil can lead to obesity, heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver and other chronic illnesses.

To maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce health risks, citizens are encouraged to:

•Buy oil in limited quantities to monitor consumption.

•Use measuring spoons to limit oil use during cooking.

•Rotate different edible oils for balanced nutrition.

•Avoid reusing oil for frying.

•Limit consumption of butter and ghee.

•Avoid deep-fried and fast foods.

•Prefer steaming, boiling and grilling over frying.

•Consume more fruits, vegetables and traditional healthy foods.

Small lifestyle changes can lead to major health benefits. All are encouraged to support and participate in the “10% Less Oil” awareness initiative for a healthier society.
