CITU To Launch Wider Campaign Against Anti-Labour and Anti-People Policies of Modi Government

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 15: A meeting of the State Committee of CITU was held at Port Blair on 14th June, 2026.  B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, State Committee presented the report on the functioning of CITU in the islands.  Members participated in the discussion.   At the outset, a condolence resolution was moved by D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee expressing grief and concern over the tragic killings of three Indian seafarers in the barbaric attack by the US Navy on the oil tanker MT Settebello near the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of Oman recently.

As per the direction of CITU Centre, New Delhi, the meeting decided to carry out wider campaign among the workers both in the organized and unorganized sectors about the anti-people and anti-working-class policies being pursued by the central government, in the next six months in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.  As a first step of the campaign, the State Committee meeting decided to organize territory-wide mass demonstrations, procession, mass dharna and public meetings on 30th June, 2026.  Local demands like (i) implementation of   High Court order on regularization of daily rated mazdoors, (ii) 1/30th pay plus DA to all the DRMs, (iii) regularization of  services of contract, outsourced, part-time workers  and scheme workers like Anganwadi Workers and Helpers and ASHA Workers,  (iv)  strict implementation of minimum wages fixed by Labour Commissioner by private firms, shops and establishments  and contractors,  etc. will also be highlighted during the programme. 

The CITU State Committee decided to reach out to all workers both in the organized and unorganized sectors in A & N Islands.   The meeting also decided to conduct campaigns among the workers about the anti-working class four Labour Codes being implemented in the islands by the Modi-government.  

CITU All India Secretaries CH Narasinga Rao and Deepa K. Rajan addressed the meeting and explained the nation-wide campaigns going to be carried out by workers and farmers against Modi government’s policies. 

R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU State Committee presided over the meeting.   CITU State Office bearers and State Committee Members from different parts of the union territory attended the meeting.
