CITU Conducts Mass Demonstration Throughout A & N Islands Raising Pending Demands of Workers

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 30: CITU has organized a territory-wide mass demonstration today (30.06.2026) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands on various pending demands of workers in which about two thousand five hundred workers across union territory participated.  At Port Blair, mass demonstration was organized at seven places.  B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee led the mass demonstration in front of the Chief Engineer’s office (APWD).   R. Surendran Pillai, President, CITU led the mass demonstration in front of the Directorate of Rural Development & PRI at Marine Hill while D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU led the programme in front of PCCF Office, Haddo.  P. Sathyapal, Secretary, CITU led the mass demonstration in front of Secretariat, SP Kalairajan, Secretary, CITU led the programme in front of Municipal Council at Aberdeen while PK Khalid, Secretary, CITU led the programme in front of STS Bus Terminus, Aberdeen and BC   Bhattacharjee led the mass demonstration in front of Electricity Headquarters. Hundreds of workers participated in many of the above places. 

The demands highlighted during the programme were 1. Implementation of High Court order on regularization of daily rated mazdoors, 2. 1/30th pay plus DA to all the DRMs of Forest, Gram Panchayats, Municipal, etc, 3. Regularization of services of casual, contract, outsourced, part-time workers and scheme workers like Anganwadi Workers and Helpers and ASHA Workers, 4. To enhance the honorarium of scheme workers (Anganwadi Workers & Helpers, ASHA Workers and Mid-day meal workers), Part-time Teachers & Employees 5. Strict implementation of minimum wages fixed by Labour Commissioner by private firms, shops and establishments and contractors, etc., 6. To provide welfare measures for the private sector workers as done in many other states on the mainland and 7. Effective measures to control price rise in the islands. 

At Diglipur, the mass demonstration was held in front of the Assistant Commissioner office, Diglipur.  Workers took out a procession in Diglipur bazar area which culminated in a meeting.  Sunil Bepari, President, CITU Diglipur Zonal Committee and MC Prasanna Kumar, General Secretary, North Andaman Public Works Union addressed the gathering.  

At Mayabunder, the Headquarter of North & Middle Andaman District, the Mass Demonstration was conducted at Mayabunder bazar which was led by C. Murugan, Secretary, CITU Mayabunder Zonal Committee, Mohammed Javed of ASNVMS and Amar Chand (BKU). They also addressed the workers.  A large number of workers participated. 

At Rangat, the mass demonstration and procession were conducted by CITU Rangat Zonal Committee at Rangat Bazar. Mass demonstration was held in front of the office of the Assistant Commissioner, Middle Andaman.   Projit Kumar Sarkar, President and C. Karuppaih, Secretary of CITU Rangat Zonal Committee and SR Mridha, All India Kisan Sabha State Secretary led the programme and addressed the workers.  A large number of workers participated. 

At Kadamtala, mass demonstration was held in front of the office of the Asst Engineer, APWD which was led by Shipra Bala, Secretary, CITU State Committee. 

At Baratang, the mass demonstration was held in front of the APWD Guest House which was led by Daniel Aint, Vice President, CITU State Committee and Appa Rao, CITU State Committee Member. A large number of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers, ASHA Workers and APWD and Forest Workers participated.  

At Swarajdweep, Mass Demonstration was held in front of the office of the Assistant Commissioner, Swarajdweep, Nithai Bala of ASNVMS, and Sushila, A & N Anganwadi Union led the programme.  A large number of Anganwadi, APWD, Forest and Panchayat-raj workers participated. 

At Hut Bay, the mass demonstration was held at Hut Bay bazar which was led by C. Rajesh, Secretary, ASNVMS Hut Bay Branch. 

At Katchal, the mass demonstration was held in front of the office of the Executive Magistrate, Katchal which was led by Thyagarajan, Secretary, Katchal Branch of ASNVMS and Rajesh Khanna (ASNVMS).  

In Great Nicobar Island, mass demonstration was held in front of the office of the Executive Engineer, APWD, Campbell Bay. R. Dhandapani, CITU State Committee Member and Siva shanker, Vice President, ASNVMS Campbell Bay Branch led the mass demonstration. Large number of workers participated.
