ANTCC Stages Protest Against Poor Govt. Healthcare Facilities in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 10: The Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), under the leadership of its President, Shri Rangalal Halder, organized a protest agitation on 10th July, 2026 against the deteriorating healthcare facilities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The protest was held in front of the historic Cellular Jail, Port Blair, where Congress leaders strongly highlighted the various deficiencies prevailing in the Government medical institutions across the Islands. During the protest, the speakers expressed serious concern over the shortage of specialist doctors, inadequate availability of essential medicines, poor diagnostic facilities, delays in treatment, shortage of healthcare staff, and the overall decline in the quality of public healthcare services. They demanded that the Administration take immediate and effective measures to address these issues and ensure quality healthcare for the people of the Islands.

Several senior Congress leaders addressed the gathering and reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding the health and welfare of the people.

The agitation witnessed the participation of the Chairman, Campaign Committee, ANTCC; TCC Members; Senior Congress leaders; District Congress Committee, South Andaman; Block Congress Committees; City Congress Committee; Mahila Congress Committee, Youth Congress Committee; INTUC representatives, INTUC(Federation) representatives, Jawahar Bal Manch Representatives, Fisherman Congress, Unorganised Workers & Employees Congress Representatives, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan Representatives, Mandal Committee Members, Municipal Councillors; PRI Members; and a large number of party functionaries and supporters.

Following the protest, a delegation of ANTCC leaders submitted a memorandum to the Director of Health Services, urging the Administration to take up the matter with the concerned authorities and initiate immediate corrective measures to improve the healthcare system in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee reaffirmed that it will continue to raise the voice of the people and pursue all democratic means until accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare is ensured for every resident of the Islands.
