District Hospital, Garacharma Organizes Health Awareness and Community Screening Programme at ICAR-CIARI

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 15: District Hospital, Garacharma in coordination with ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute’s Employees Welfare Association (CIARIEWA) organized a health awareness cum community screening programme at CIARI’s Garacharma Research Complex on 14/07/2026.

A number of pathological, lifestyle as well as mental ailments are impacting everyday lives in today’s world. Some of these ailments require regular monitoring for their effective management at the community level. Of these critical ailments, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B & C, Syphilis and Tuberculosis are among those requiring awareness as well as monitoring. To create awareness as well as undertake community screening among the employees of ICAR-CIARI, the programme was conducted in which Smti. Mini Kumari, Health Counselor (ICTC) delivered a talk. Further, mental health is an important aspect that requires sufficient attention to maintain social balance. This was also dealt in detail by her in the interactive mode, while technicians from the District Hospital undertook the screening tasks.

Eighty-two staff including contractual and sanitation workers were benefitted in the programme, while 71 underwent screening. The programme was coordinated by Mr. K. Shyam Sunder Rao and Mr. Shyam Prakash Narayan, while Dr. Pooja Bohra welcomed the gathering on behalf of CIARIEWA. Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (A), ICAR-CIARI lauded the efforts and suggested to take up regular camps for the benefit of the institute employees.
