Sri Vijaya Puram, July 20: The Directorate of Shipping Services has concluded chartering agreement with three operators for operation of 50-passenger (Pax) vessels at Long Island, Diglipur & Nancowry with the objective of enhancing maritime connectivity for the people in their local areas.
The first chartered vessel, MV Saroj, commenced her maiden voyage on the Long Island–Yeratta route today. The inaugural sailing was flagged off by Shri. B. Kamaraju, Pradhan, Long Island at a small function held at Long Island in the presence of Deputy Director, DSS, Shri J. Gopinath. The remaining chartered vessels for Diglipur and Nancowry are expected to be inducted into service shortly.
The Directorate of Shipping Services has informed that the chartered ferries will operate strictly under control and supervision of DSS. The operators shall adhere to the existing approved sailing schedules and comply with all operational standards, safety regulations, and service requirements prescribed by the DSS.
It is further emphasized that introduction of these vessels will not affect the existing passenger ticket fares. The fare structure shall continue to be regulated and notified by the Directorate of Shipping Services, ensuring that passengers continue to avail ferry services at the prevailing Government-approved rates.
