A&N Administration Taking Necessary Steps to Restore Regular LPG Supplies in the Island
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 28: The residents of Campbell Bay have been informed that the A&N Administration is taking all necessary steps to restore regular LPG supplies to Campbell Bay. The availability of domestic LPG cylinders has been affected due to disruption in regular shipping services over the past few months.
It is further informed that the supply and distribution of domestic LPG cylinders in the Islands is undertaken by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) through its authorized LPG distributor. The Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (CS&CA), on behalf of the A&N Administration, continuously monitors the availability and distribution of LPG across the Islands.
Owing to the disruption in scheduled vessel services, transportation of LPG cylinders to Campbell Bay could not be undertaken for the past few months. This has resulted in depletion of stocks and a temporary shortage of LPG cylinders in the area.
Considering the inconvenience faced by the residents of Campbell Bay, the Administration immediately took up the matter with the Indian Navy. Through the coordinated efforts of the Indian Navy, Andaman & Nicobar Command, IOCL and other stakeholders, a special consignment of 250 filled LPG cylinders was successfully transported to Campbell Bay, providing immediate relief to consumers.
As the requirement of LPG cylinders in Campbell Bay continues to remain higher than the quantity supplied, the Directorate has once again requested the Indian Navy to extend assistance for transportation of an additional consignment of 250 filled LPG cylinders. The cylinders will be dispatched based on the operational feasibility of the Indian Navy. Simultaneously, efforts have also been initiated to transport around 200 LPG cylinders through MV Chuglam during the first week of August.
Further, efforts are also being made to transport adequate quantities of LPG cylinders through the scheduled voyages of MV Manav Star and MV Sakthi. It is expected that sufficient LPG cylinders will reach Campbell Bay by the first week of August, which is likely to restore normal availability of LPG in the area.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration expresses its sincere appreciation to the Indian Navy and Andaman & Nicobar Command for their timely support and close coordination in ensuring the supply of this essential commodity to the remote Island. The Administration also assures the residents of Campbell Bay that every possible effort is being made to restore normal LPG supplies at the earliest.
