ANTCC Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress Request for Enhancement of Air Connectivity, Affordable Airfares, Cargo Support, and Special Aviation Measures for A&N Islands

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 4: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee’s Unorganised Workers and Employees Congress has written to the Union Minister of Civil Aviation requesting to enhance air connectivity in the A&N Islands. The Congress has also requested to ensure affordable airfares, cargo support and special aviation measures for the Islands.

The Congress stated that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are geographically isolated from mainland India and are entirely dependent on air and sea transport for the movement of people, essential commodities, medical emergencies, educational pursuits, business activities, and tourism. In this context, the present number of flights connecting Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair) with mainland India is inadequate to meet the growing demand.

Stating the above, the Congress requested the Minister to consider an increase in flight frequency, Direct Connectivity with Tier-II and Tier-III Cities under Phase-II of RCS-UDAN, Rationalisation and Urgent Capping of Airfares, Introduction of Student Airfare Concessions, Affordable Air Travel for Medical Patients, Strengthening Island Cargo and Logistics Services and Supporting the Unorganised Sector and Middle-Class Families.
