Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 19: The Directorate of Disaster Management (DDM), A&N Administration, in coordination with the Directorate of Education organized a two-day Training of Teachers Programme on School Safety and Disaster Preparedness on 18th and 19th August, 2026 at the Training Hall of Aapda Prabandhan Bhawan, Sri Vijaya Puram for third Batch of the School Teachers. The training programme was attended by 45 teachers from various Government and Private schools.
Addressing the participants during the inaugural session held on Aug. 18, Smti Priyanka Kumari, Director (Disaster Management), emphasized the vital role of teachers in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during emergencies. She stated that schools are among the most important institutions for promoting disaster awareness and preparedness and that trained teachers play a crucial role in building resilience within the community. Earlier, Shri Janik Ram, Assistant Director (Admn.), Directorate of Disaster Management highlighted the importance of strengthening disaster preparedness in educational institutions.
The technical session of two-day programme covered important aspects of disaster risk reduction, including Basics of Disaster Management, School Safety, Search and Rescue (SAR), Medical First Response (MFR), and Fire Safety. The sessions comprised classroom lectures, interactive discussions and practical demonstrations conducted by experts from the Directorate of Disaster Management, Directorate of Education, Health Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Fire Services.
The programme concluded today with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Sudev Kumar, Statistical Officer, DDM.
