Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 1: The Ambitious Badminton Club Dairy Farm (ABCD) successfully concluded its 4th ABCD Open Badminton Tournament 2026, organised from 22nd to 29th August 2026 at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indoor Badminton Court, Dairy Farm, as part of the celebrations marking National Sports Day 2026.
The week-long tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from badminton players from different parts of the islands, providing a vibrant platform for young and emerging players as well as experienced badminton enthusiasts to showcase their talent, competitive spirit and sportsmanship.
The grand finale and prize distribution ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, along with Shri Ration Rasheed, Social Worker; Shri B. Eswar Rao, Ex-Councillor, SVPMC; and Smti Maya Sarkar, Junior Engineer, SVPMC.
The Chief Guest distributed trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up of the various categories. Addressing the youth, Ms. Shweta K. Sugathan, IPS, encouraged them to take up sports seriously and remain physically active. She also strongly appealed to young people to stay away from drugs and choose a healthy, disciplined and positive lifestyle.
Shri Ration Rasheed, while extending his support to the “Say No to Drugs” campaign, urged the younger generation to keep away from substance abuse and channel their energy towards sports, education, skill development and other constructive activities. He emphasised that sports can play an important role in building discipline, confidence, teamwork and a positive outlook among youngsters.
The tournament featured several competitive categories, including Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 Mixed Singles, Open Men’s Singles, Open Men’s Doubles, 35+ Men’s Doubles, and 40+/50+ Men’s Doubles. Players competed with great enthusiasm throughout the tournament, making the event a successful celebration of badminton and sporting excellence.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, participants, officials, supporters and everyone associated with the tournament for their valuable contribution towards its successful conduct.
