Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 10: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services organised training programmes under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) at Junglighat and Campbell Bay today for the benefit of livestock farmers.
A Goatery training programme under NLM was conducted at Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat. During the programme, the farmers were educated on scientific goat rearing practices, including housing, feeding, healthcare, breeding management and disease prevention. The session also highlighted the various support schemes available under the National Livestock Mission for goat farmers.
On the same day, training of pig farmers under the Farmers’ Field School of the NLM scheme was conducted at Rajiv Nagar Nicobari Community Hall and at the farmer’s field of Pilo Bhabi Tsunami Shelter by Veterinary Hospital, Campbell Bay. The training focused on scientific pig farming practices, proper feeding, housing and healthcare management for better productivity and income generation.
These programmes form part of the Department’s continuous efforts under the National Livestock Mission to build the capacity of livestock farmers and promote scientific animal husbandry practices in the Islands. The Department of AH&VS remains committed to organising such field-level trainings for the welfare of farmers.
