
Car Nicobar, Sept. 18: An awareness programme focusing on Suicide Prevention Day and the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was organized at the Conference Hall, BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar today. The programme was aimed at creating awareness on mental health and suicide prevention, tobacco control, patient safety, access to healthcare and other important public health issues.
Dr. Grace, Medical Superintendent, BJR Hospital shared important messages on Suicide prevention, mental health, tobacco control and importance of community participation. The programme was attended by Headman’s and Lady Representatives from various villages, members of the general public, ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers and healthcare staff.
Mrs. Geeta Rani Saha, Counsellor, Tele-MANAS, Mr. Rathindra Mallick, Psychological Counsellor, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) enlighten the gathering on important public health issues.
A special Suicide Prevention Pledge was also taken during the programme. All participated in the pledge with candles, symbolizing hope, solidarity and the collective commitment to promoting mental wellbeing, supporting people in distress and working towards suicide prevention in the community.
As part of the programme, Dr. Mohammed Shafique, Medical Officer (Homoeopathy), BJR Hospital, addressed the gathering on Patient Safety Day and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Dr. Sharda Lall, District Epidemiologist, Nicobar District delivered awareness sessions on Eye Donation Day.
