Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 23: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) President Shri Rangalal Halder has drawn the attention of the Secretary (Health), A&N Administration, towards the poor cleanliness and sanitation conditions reportedly prevailing in the New Medical Ward of G.B. Pant Hospital, where more than 50 patients are presently undergoing treatment.
Shri Halder stated that the present condition of the ward requires immediate attention, particularly with regard to cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation facilities. He said that the bathrooms and toilets in the ward are reportedly in a poor and unhygienic condition, causing considerable inconvenience to patients and their attendants.
He emphasized that patients visiting or admitted to a government hospital are entitled to a clean, hygienic and safe environment. Poor sanitation within a medical ward can create additional difficulties for patients who are already undergoing treatment and can affect their comfort, dignity and overall well-being.
Shri Halder has therefore requested the Secretary Health to personally visit the New Medical Ward and conduct an immediate on-ground inspection and survey of the prevailing conditions.
The proposed inspection should, he said, cover the overall cleanliness of the ward, condition of bathrooms and toilets, availability and deployment of sanitation staffs, frequency of cleaning, waste disposal arrangements and other essential hygiene facilities.
The ANTCC President further urged the Health Department to take necessary corrective measures at the earliest and ensure that adequate sanitation and cleaning arrangements are maintained on a regular basis at the wards of GB Pant Hospital.
