Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 25: The Beach Volleyball Tournament for Open Men and Open Women got underway at Corbyn’s Cove Beach today. The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T), A&N Administration, is organising the tournament as part of the World Tourism Day- 2026 celebrations in collaboration with tourism stakeholders and allied Departments. The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism’.
The tournament began with a pleasant start at the picturesque Corbyn’s Cove, with players displaying exceptional athleticism, teamwork, and determination on the sandy courts. Several matches witnessed intense rallies, powerful smashes, remarkable digs, and closely contested finishes, keeping the spectators thoroughly entertained. The lively atmosphere at Corbyn’s Cove Beach, coupled with enthusiastic support from the audience, added to the excitement of the opening day’s competition.
A total of 4 matches were played on the first day in the men’s and women’s categories. Altogether, 38 teams are participating in the tournament. The competition will continue tomorrow with league round matches commencing from 9 am. The event is being organised in coordination with the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs and tourism stakeholders. Volleyball enthusiasts and the general public have been invited to witness the thrilling matches of the tournament and cheer for the competing teams. Meanwhile, Tug of War competition for men and women will be held from 3 pm on Sept. 26.
