Shaheed Dweep, Sept. 28: The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, during the concluding phase of his two-day visit to Shaheed Dweep, inspected and reviewed the beauty and cleanliness of Laxmanpur Beach under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign. The campaign is also aimed at taking the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s message of cleanliness to every village.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Lt. Governor emphasized that the participation of the Gram Panchayat is of utmost importance in ensuring cleanliness. He said that Panchayats should play a vital role in attracting tourists through cleanliness and promoting the development of villages. He also stressed the importance of environmental conservation so that a balance is maintained between development and environmental protection. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed the Tourism Department to setup eco-huts, benches for visitors, signboards and other basic tourist amenities.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor administered the Swachhata pledge to all officers, Panchayat members and Safai Mitras.
The Hon’ble Lt. Governor also interacted at length with local residents and listened to their grievances and concerns.
The Pradhan of the area invited the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to the Vivekananda Mela scheduled to be held in January. The Hon’ble Lt. Governor expressed his pleasure at being amidst the villagers and officers and thanked them for their warm hospitality. He encouraged everyone to work with greater dedication and commitment for public welfare.
The Hon’ble Lt. Governor directed the officers to prepare a detailed report and ensure the prompt implementation of the directions issued during the visit.
During the visit, Smt. Pallavi Sarkar, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman; Smt. Shweta Sugathan, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman; Shri Rajesh Chopra, Secretary (Rural Development); Smt. Jyoti Kumari, Secretary to the Lt. Governor; Smt. Akanchha Singh, Director (Tourism); Shri Apurva Sharma, Director (Rural Development); Smt. Champa Das, Pramukh Panchayat Samiti, Sri Vijaya Puram; and Smt. Pinky Das, Pradhan (Shaheed Dweep), along with senior officers, elected representatives and representatives of all political parties, were present.
