SHEW Conducts Series of Programmes with an Aim to Empower Women

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 1: The State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), Directorate of Social Welfare conducted a series of programs during the month of September 2026 with the objective of strengthening women’s knowledge, skills, entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities.

The series commenced on Sept. 9 with an awareness session on the importance of good mental health and stress management for youth. This was followed by a two-day capacity-building program for Mission Shakti functionaries on Sept. 17&18. An awareness session on Financial Literacy, covering budgeting, financial planning and avenues for financial independence, was also conducted on Sept. 18 at Hope Foundation, Bhatubasti.

A workshop on ‘Value Addition in Locally Cultivated Fruits for Economic Empowerment of Farm Women, SHGs and Young Women Entrepreneurs’ was conducted from Sept. 23 to 25 at Shaheed Dweep. This workshop highlighted the opportunities for developing local fruit-based products, farm experiences, locally prepared food products, attractive gift packs, fruit-based souvenirs and other products that can cater to tourists. A program on Digital Skills and Technology Management, conducted on Sept. 21.

Dr. Nitu Sindhu, State Mission Coordinator (SHEW), and Ms. Apurva Singh, Research and Training Specialist (SHEW), conducted and facilitated the sessions as part of the ongoing efforts of SHEW towards women’s empowerment and capacity building.
