IGNOU, Port Blair Regional Centre, Celebrates “Swachhata Hi Seva” 2026

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 1: On 1st October 2026, “Swachhata Hi Seva”, 2026 program was organized at IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair. The program was organized on the occasion of “Swachhata Pakhwada, 2026” and attended by Regional Centre staffs, students and Safai Mitra. 

The Chief Guest Smt. M. Vasantha, Chairperson, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) inaugurated the programme. She focused on keep their surrounding clean and encourages local community, learners to keep their homes, roads and city clean. She also requested audience to support and help Safai Mitra in their work. 

The Guest of Honor Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Director, Botanical Survey of India, Sri Vijaya Puram delivered the key note address. He emphasized on saving of water, saving plant and plantation of more and more trees, saving our nature, our ecosystems and which starts from a single person from the individual himself. He gave the example of Lord Budha who use to be naked and eats only peanut and she goat milk, his path should be right and different, later all will follow it if serves the right purposes. Prof. PVN Sharma, Principal, Andaman Law College, Sri Vijay Puram also grace the occasion. He emphasized on maintaining cleanliness, avoid fast foods, packed foods, and dairy products, eat natural things, live simple, eat simple and the total environment, the ecosystem will be hygienic. He also appreciated contribution of IGNOU for encouraging learners to learn and innovate.

At the beginning of program, Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob, Regional Director, Regional Centre, Port Blair welcome to the Chief Guest and Guest of Honors. He introduced to the IGNOU and importance of “Swachhata Hi Seva” program. Mrs. Lakshmi, Safai Mitra was also felicitated in the occasion. The guest, staff and learners from various disciplines participated in clean campaign programme as part of Swachhta Hi Seva. Mrs. U Swaraja Laxmi Bai introduced the theme of the day and Dr. Uday Kumar Assistant Regional Director brought the event to a close with vote of thanks.
