Sri Vijaya Puram (Report: Dr. Dinesh): A thunderstorm accompanied by lightning on the afternoon of 5 th October, 2026, in Sri Vijaya Puram served as a reminder of the risks associated with lightning activity. In the Dairy Farm area, three television sets, lights and fan in nearby homes were reportedly damaged, apparently following a lightning-related electrical surge. No casualties were reported.
Such incidents are not limited to damage to electrical appliances; lightning can pose a serious threat to human life. Residents are therefore advised to exercise caution whenever thunderstorms are accompanied by lightning.
One of the most important precautions is to avoid standing under trees during lightning. Although trees may appear to provide shelter from rain, they can become dangerous when struck by lightning. People caught outdoors should move quickly to a substantial, enclosed building.
During thunderstorms, residents may also consider unplugging sensitive electrical and electronic appliances and avoid using wired electrical equipment.
