Inclusive Sports Meet Celebrates the Abilities of Children with Special Needs in Diglipur

Diglipur, Oct 16: The two-day Block Level Inclusive Sports Meet 2026 for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) concluded on Thursday at the Multipurpose Hall, Diglipur, with a focus on inclusion, equal opportunities and the abilities of every child. Organised by the Block Project Office (BPO), Diglipur, under the Inclusive Education component of Samagra Shiksha, the meet was held under the theme “Every Child is a Champion.”

A total of 62 children with special needs participated in various sporting events across different age groups and categories. The meet provided a platform for the children to demonstrate their sporting abilities, build confidence, interact with their peers and experience the joy of participation in an inclusive environment.

The BPO, Diglipur, made dedicated efforts to ensure that children with diverse support needs could participate in the events with dignity and confidence. Under the coordination of Ms. S. Vijaya, Block Resource Person (CWSN), the sporting activities were planned according to the abilities and needs of the participants. Accessibility arrangements and communication support were provided to encourage meaningful participation. The engagement of sign language interpreter Ms. Nagwanti Kumari further supported communication and inclusion during the programme.

The sporting events included wheelchair races and other activities suited to the participants. Children from pre-primary, elementary and secondary levels took part enthusiastically, reflecting determination, teamwork and sportsmanship.

The inaugural ceremony on October 15 was attended by Mr. M. Krishna Kumar, Executive Engineer, APWD, as the Chief Guest. Dr. C. Pushpavalli, Block Project Officer, Diglipur, and Ms. Fatima Bibi, Internal Observer, were also present. The opening programme featured a march-past by the participating children, NCC cadets, the band team, and Scouts and Guides. Flag hoisting was followed by a ceremonial torch relay, with children carrying the sports torch as a symbol of unity, hope and determination.

The concluding ceremony on October 16 was attended by Shri P. Singaram, Pradhan, Subhashgram Gram Panchayat, who hoisted the flag and formally declared the meet closed.

The event highlighted the important role of the BPO in promoting inclusive education beyond the classroom. The meet also reinforced the message that every child deserves equal opportunities to learn, participate and thrive.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. S. Vijaya, BRP (CWSN), who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, officials, staff, escort teachers, participating children, parents and all others who contributed to the successful conduct of the event.
