DBRAIT Organises Awareness Programme on Municipal Solid Waste Management with DST, SVPMC

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 18: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Sri Vijaya Puram, organised a mandatory awareness programme on Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Management in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Sri Vijaya Puram, and the Swachhata Awareness Team of the Sri Vijaya puram Municipal Council (SVPMC). The programme was conducted at the AV Hall, with enthusiastic participation from students of the DBRAIT.

Shri P. Uma Maheshwara Rao, Environmental Engineer, served as the resource person and elucidated the principles of scientific waste management, source segregation, responsible disposal, and environmental sanitation. A practical demonstration by the Swachhata Awareness Team of SVPMC reinforced the importance of sustainable waste-handling practices.

The programme was coordinated by Shri Altamash Mustafa, HOD, B.Tech Civil Engineering, and Associate Dean, IQAC, and underscored the significance of compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, alongside collective environmental stewardship.

The session culminated in an inquisitive question-and-answer interaction, followed by an MSW Awareness Quiz, which reinforced participants’ understanding and encouraged active engagement. Students were exhorted to become Swachata Ambassadors in their homes and colonies, disseminating awareness about waste segregation, judicious disposal, and neighbourhood cleanliness among family members and community residents.

The initiative reaffirmed DBRAIT’s commitment to MSW, environmental consciousness, civic responsibility, and sustainable development, extending the ethos of cleanliness beyond the institutional precincts into the wider community.
