A&N Police Observes National Police Commemoration Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 21: The A&N Police solemnly observed National Police Commemoration Day today at the Parade Ground, Police Lines, to pay heartfelt tributes to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

A Commemoration Day Parade was held, during which Shri Ravindra Singh Yadav, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands, along with senior police officers, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony and paid homage to the martyrs. The event was also attended by the families of the martyrs and retired Deputy Superintendents of Police, who gathered to honour the memory of the fallen heroes.

21st October is observed in memory of the ten brave CRPF personnel who attained martyrdom in 1959 while defending the nation’s frontiers at Hot Springs, Ladakh, during an encounter with heavily armed Chinese troops. Despite being equipped with only rifles, they displayed extraordinary courage and valour, making the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.

The day also honours all police personnel who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. This year, 154 police personnel from various States, Union Territories and Central Armed Police Forces laid down their lives while discharging their duties.

The National Police Memorial in New Delhi stands as a lasting tribute to the courage, dedication and sacrifice of police personnel across the country, while the memorial at Hot Springs, Ladakh, commemorates the valour of the ten martyrs of 1959.

The A&N Police pay its deepest respects to all police martyrs and stands in solidarity with their bereaved families. Their selfless service, unwavering courage and supreme sacrifice will forever remain an inspiration to generations of police personnel. The nation shall always remain indebted to its brave martyrs. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
