CITU Demands Disbursement of Monthly Wages of DRMs Before Diwali

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 3: CITU Andaman & Nicobar State Committee has demanded disbursement of monthly wages for the month of October 2026 to all the daily rated mazdoors working in various departments of the Administration before the Diwali festival. In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee said that the Diwali which falls on 8th November, 2026 is an important festival in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.  People cutting across religion and region celebrate this festival in this union territory.

CITU General Secretary said that monthly wages of the daily rated workers working in various departments under the Administration are normally drawn and paid to them only after 10th day of every succeeding month.  If the monthly wages are not paid to these daily rated workers before Diwali festival, they may not be able to celebrate the festival as almost all of them belong to poor families and are single earning members in the concerned family.

Chandrachoodan requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary directions to all Heas of Departments/Heads of Offices under the Administration to disburse the monthly wages to the daily rated workers before the Diwali celebration so that these workers can also celebrate the festival with joy and enthusiasm.
