
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 20: Sri Vijaya Puram city has been awarded the Special Category Award – “Promising Swachh Shehar” under the 9th edition of Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, themed “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” The award was presented by Hon’ble Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal during a national ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 17th July, 2025, in the presence of the Hon’ble President of India and senior officials of Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.
The award was received by Shri S. Shahul Hameed, Chairperson, SVPMC, Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, Secretary, SVPMC, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, OSD to Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, along with the Superintending Engineer and Sanitary Officer, SVPMC.
As per the City Report Card by MoHUA, Sri Vijaya Puram falls under the medium city category (0.5 to 3 lakh population) and secured a score of 9096 out of 12,500 (72.27%). The city earned ODF++ certification and a 3-Star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating for the first time. The survey covered 16 residential areas, 2 commercial zones, 6 public toilets, 12 schools, 350 households, 36 waste processing units, 1 dumpsite remediation site, and 1 Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant. A total of 11,100 citizen feedback responses were collected and verified by an independent third party.
This year’s Swachh Survekshan included three award categories; Super Swachh League Cities (Presidential Awards), National Rankings (Presidential Awardees), and Special Category Awards (Hon’ble Cabinet Minister’s Awardees). Sri Vijaya Puram was honored under the Special Category. The city made a remarkable leap in national rankings entering the Top 100 cities in India, improving to 99th out of 824 ULBs in 2024-25 from 162nd out of 446 ULBs in 2023-24.
