
Sri Vijaya Puram, July 30: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with the Environment and Forest Department organized a tree plantation drive today at the Dairy Training-cum-Demonstration Farm, Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), Dollygunj, to mark the 76th Van Mahotsav. The event, themed ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, aimed to promote environmental sustainability and enhance the green cover of the Islands.
The program was graced by Smt. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (AH&VS), as the chief guest. Dr. K.A. Naveen, Director (AH&VS), Dr. Ajay Verma, Joint Director (AH&VS), and Senior Veterinary Officers of the farm were present, alongwith Smt. Lalita Singh, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Shri Giri, Deputy Ranger, and other Forest Department officials. Dr. Subhash B. Palve, Senior Veterinary Officer, Dairy Training-cum-Demonstration Farm, Dollygunj, coordinated the event with support from AH&VS staff.
A total of 100 fruit-bearing saplings and other plants, provided by the Environment and Forest Department, were planted across the LFC campus. The initiative highlighted the importance of afforestation in supporting ecological balance and fostering sustainable agricultural practices, aligning with the goals of Van Mahotsav to encourage community participation in environmental conservation.
The active involvement of officials from both Departments underscored the collaborative effort to promote a greener and more sustainable A&N Islands. The AH&VS Department and the Environment and Forest Department aim to continue such initiatives to enhance environmental awareness and support rural communities. The event reflects the A&N Administration’s commitment to integrating animal husbandry activities with environmental sustainability, contributing to the Islands’ ecological and agricultural development.
