Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 7: Today, a delegation of PRI members comprising Ms. V. K. Mariyam Bibi, Ex-Adhyaksha Zilla Parishad and ZPM Bambooflat; Smti Padmavathi, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti Ferrargunj; Shri Shafique, Pradhan, Mithakhari; Shri Venkat Rao, Pradhan, GP Namunaghar; Shri Anand Amrit Raj, Pradhan, GP Tushnabad; Smti Rasheeda, Pradhan, Hopetown; Smti Naseema, Pradhan, Bambooflat; Shri Ram Babu, Pradhan, Wimberlygunj; and Shri Sunil, Pradhan, Ferrargunj, met the Chief Secretary to express serious concerns over the ongoing irregular power supply in the region.
The delegation highlighted the severe impact of erratic and unscheduled power cuts on the daily lives of common citizens—particularly senior citizens, patients, business owners, shopkeepers, and those reliant on electronic and kitchen appliances. They emphasized the growing unrest among the public due to frequent outages, often without prior notice, which is affecting healthcare services, livelihoods, and domestic routines.
Although a power cut schedule is published in the Daily Telegram, the delegates pointed out that the actual outages do not follow the stated timings, causing confusion and inconvenience.
In response, the Chief Secretary acknowledged the gravity of the situation and informed the PRI members that a 10 MW power plant at Chatham is under installation and is expected to be operational within three months, after which the situation is anticipated to normalize.
He also assured that henceforth, morning and evening schedules for power cuts will be published in advance and requested the PRI members to monitor and inform him if any power disruption occurs outside the scheduled timings.
Furthermore, the Chief Secretary shared that plans are underway to install solar power systems at government offices, Panchayat Bhavans, and other public institutions to help stabilize power supply to some extent at the grassroots level.
The delegation appreciated the Chief Secretary’s response and urged swift implementation of these measures in the interest of public welfare.
