ANACS Launches 2nd Round of Intensified IEC Campaign on the Occasion of International Youth Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 12: On the occasion of “International Youth Day” on 12th August 2025 A&N AIDS Control Society launched 2nd round of two months long Intensified IEC Campaign from 12/08/2025 to 12/10/2025 as per the direction of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI with a primary objective to raise awareness among young adults about HIV, AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

The campaign was inaugurated by Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Health), Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration as Chief Guest, in presence of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control Society. Red Ribbon Club Nodal Officers from Colleges, Nodal Officers from Departments and more than 250 students from various colleges of A & N Islands were present in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (Health) highlighted the impact of HIV/AIDS globally, stating that IEC activities are important to bring behavior change among the youth. It is very important that the communication should never stop and discussing issues will bring out the right solutions. Guidance of parents and teachers can be the best way to educate yourself than relying on the social media.

Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A&N AIDS Control Society in his key note address spoke on the objective of the Campaign and gave a detail information on the various aspects of HIV & AIDS.  The International Youth Day has been chosen to launch the Intensified IEC Campaign as youths are the most vulnerable population but they can become the changing agents once their knowledge is enhanced.  They can not only be the beneficiaries of the programme but their leadership quality can also play crucial role to spread awareness.

Earlier, Dr. Jahanara Yasmeen, Deputy Director, MS & IEC welcomed the gathering.

On this occasion, appreciation certificates were presented to the Nodal Officers of Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and Nodal Officers from various departments to acknowledge and appreciate the commendable contribution made by them on HIV and AIDS awareness activities within their institutional schedules. Mementos were given to the Colleges and Departments who actively participated in the HIV awareness activities. Folk performance by Dance Nritya Academy was also performed giving information on HIV & AIDS.     

The function was concluded by vote of thanks from Shri Kaushik Kumar Halder, Assistant Director (IEC).
