
Car Nicobar, Aug. 24: In a vibrant tribute to National Sports Day, the Khel Mahotsav Torch Relay was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor across Car Nicobar. The event witnessed spirited participation from students, teachers, village communities, and local dignitaries, reaffirming the Island’s commitment to promoting sports and unity.
As chief guest, Shri Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars) ceremoniously handed over the torch to the Headman of Malacca Village, and both jointly led the relay from the Gandhi Statue, symbolizing the values of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Earlier, the ceremonial torch was officially handed over by Shri Nithin Roy, PET, GMSSS Hutbay, to Smti. Deepali Rani Das, Nodal Officer, Car Nicobar Zone; Assistant Supervisor (Sports); and In-charge, SAI, along with PETs of the Car Nicobar Educational Zone at Mus Jetty.
The torch relay traveled through multiple villages, including Kakana, Kimious, Arong, Sawai, Teetop, Kinmai, Small Lapathy, Big Lapathy, Mus, Tapoiming, Chukchucha, Kinyuka, Tamaloo, and Perka, where it was welcomed with cultural displays, community cheers, and enthusiastic student participation.
Led by SAI trainees and village sports personalities, the relay brought together diverse segments of the community under the shared spirit of sports and celebration.
The event reached its grand finale at BJR Stadium, where the Headman of Perka Village handed over the torch to the Education Officer, who in turn passed it to the Nodal Officer for safe custody before its onward journey to the Nancowrie Zone via helicopter.
Earlier, the celebration began with a welcome address by Shri Jacob, Education Officer (In-charge), followed by a vibrant band performance by students, setting an energetic tone for the relay.
This inspiring relay not only celebrated athleticism but also served as a testament to the community’s solidarity, cultural richness, and passion for sports. The torch relay of Car Nicobar stands as a proud milestone in the ongoing festivities of Khel Mahotsav 2025.
