ZSI and EIACP Centre on Island Biodiversity to Commemorate World Ozone Day 2025 on Sept. 16

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 11: The September 16 is the World Ozone Day, which is also known as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. The United Nations General Assembly established the event in 1994 to honour the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer by countries in 1987. The beginning of the ozone layer’s depletion necessitated the declaration of an action to protect it.  This unique day seeks to educate everyone on the earth about the value of the ozone layer, how it shields us from UV radiation, and the necessity to shield it from harmful substances. The World Ozone Day 2025’s theme, “From Science to Global Action” which highlights the journey from scientific discovery of ozone depletion to global efforts like the Montreal Protocol that are successfully restoring the ozone layer. 

To commemorate World Ozone Day 2025, the Zoological Survey of India, A & N Regional Centre and the EIACP Centre on Island Biodiversity is hosting a one-day seminar.  The seminar will take place on 12th September 2025 and about 70-80 teachers & students from various schools of South Andaman are anticipated to attend the program. 

Shri. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Andaman & Nicobar Islands will inaugurate the seminar as a Chief Guest.  There will be four different talks will be delivered by eminent expert in the field of Antarctica, Arctic and Island ecosystems.
