Sri Vijaya Puram Sept. 12: In a major step towards strengthening the public library network in the Islands, the A&N Administration has approved the upgradation of the existing Zonal Library at Mayabunder, North & Middle Andaman District, to the status of a District Library. The decision, approved by the Director (Education), comes in recognition of the growing intellectual engagement, rising footfall, and increasing demand for quality reading and reference material among the citizens of the region.
With the new status, the District Library at Mayabunder will undergo comprehensive enhancements, including substantial augmentation of its repository with an enriched and diversified collection of books, journals, periodicals and digital resources; improvement and modernization of reading spaces and user amenities; deployment of additional qualified personnel, where required, to ensure efficient library operations; and introduction of outreach programmes and literary initiatives to engage students, educators, researchers, and the general public.
The newly designated District Library will serve as the Principal Library for North & Middle Andaman District, functioning under the supervision of the Deputy Education Officer, Mayabunder, in coordination with the State Library.
