Special Awareness Campaign by State Hub for Empowerment of Women Concludes

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 14: A 10 days special awareness campaign was organized by the State Hub for Empowerment of Women, Directorate of Social Welfare from Sept. 2 to 12, 2025 across various locations in South Andaman District to create awareness among women and educate the community on important social, legal and health related issues. The concluding program was organized at A&N Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) Campus, Corbyn’s Cove today on ‘women empowerment through medicine & allied healthcare professional courses’. While the program the participants were also informed about WHL (Women Helpline: 181) by the Mrs. Reshma Banu (Call Operator, WHL) and Mrs. P. Deepa Laxmi informed the candidates about POSH Act.

During the entire campaign various topics like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Gender Sensitization, Legal Awareness, Women Safety at Work Place, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Empowering women through higher education, Awareness and compliance for POCSO Act, Women and adolescent girl’s health and nutrition awareness were covered.

The campaign activities included community level awareness sessions, interactive discussions, expert talks and outreach programs, aiming to sensitize women, adolescent girls and community leaders about their rights, legal protections and available government schemes. This program was conducted under the guidance of Shri. Ravinder Kumar (Director, Social Welfare).
