
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 17: Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council inaugurated the “Swachhata Hi Seva – 2025” initiative today with a solemn ceremony held in front of the National Memorial Cellular Jail. The fortnight-long programme commenced with the administration of the Swachhata Pledge by Shri Shahul Hameed, Chairperson, SVPMC.
The inaugural programme was attended by distinguished dignitaries including Shri Neeraj Bharti, IAS, Secretary (UD), A&N Administration, Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, Secretary, SVPMC, Smt. D. Radhika, Senior Vice Chairperson, Councillors, officials and staff of SVPMC as well as participation from the general public. A signature campaign was simultaneously launched to reiterate the collective commitment of citizens towards maintaining hygiene, sanitation and a sustainable environment.
As part of the inaugural event, dignitaries planted saplings at Veer Savarkar Park under the nationwide initiative ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ symbolizing the vital role of trees in environmental preservation. This was followed by a mass cleanliness drive undertaken from Clock Tower to Cellular Jail and in the surrounding areas, demonstrating the resolve of both civic leaders and citizens to lead by example in maintaining public spaces.
On the occasion, the Chairperson and Secretary, SVPMC, urged citizens to desist from throwing garbage in the open and instead hand it over to Safai Mitras in a segregated form, thereby supporting the Council’s efforts for a cleaner and healthier city.
SVPMC has lined up a series of activities and awareness programmes from 17th September to 2nd October, 2025, aimed at engaging citizens, institutions and community groups in building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable urban environment. SVPMC urges all residents to join the drive and help make Sri Vijaya Puram a clean and green city.
