Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 19: An International Day of Action, Coastal Cleanup Day aims to shield our oceans, rivers, and animals from trash and plastic pollution. Nine beaches on the A and N Islands have been designated by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Government of India. The purpose of the day was to draw attention to the increasing levels of pollution on the world’s beaches.
The Beach Cleanup will be conducted across nine beaches of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands i.e., Radhanagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep; Baludera Beach, Baratang; Raman Bagicha, Middle Andaman; Karmatang Beach, Mayabunder; Ramnagar Beach, Diglipur; Butler Bay Beach, Little Andaman; Mundapahad Beach, South Andaman; B-Querry Beach, Great Nicobar; North Wandoor Beach, South Andaman) in collaboration with Department of Environment & Forests; Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO); Mahatma Gandhi Government College, Mayabunder; Government Senior Secondary School, Ramnagar, Diglipur; Government Senior Secondary School, Jarawa Creek, Baratang; Andaman Law College; and Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya.
