State Library Organises Series of Competitions to Promote Reading Habits Among Children

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 5: As part of the month-long Monsoon Book Reading Festival 2.0, held on all Sundays of October 2025, a series of competitions such as Skit on the theme ‘Love the Nature’, Treasure Hunt and Speed Reading for the senior group (Classes IX to XII) were organized today by the State Library, Sri Vijaya Puram, functioning under the Directorate of Education. The event aimed to promote reading habits, foster a love for literature and provide a platform for book lovers to come together and share their passion.

These activities were specially curated for students from Classes IX to XII to nurture creativity and enhance literacy skills among young learners of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Students from both Government and Private Schools participated with great enthusiasm and interest.

During the ceremony, Shri Vikram Singh, Director (Education) visited the State Library and witnessed the various competitions conducted on different floors of the Library and encouraged the students to stay engaged with reading and to take active interest in Library activities. He also interacted with the participants and advised them to make full use of the State Library’s facilities, which include a vast collection of children’s books, general knowledge materials, fiction, storybooks, and competitive exam resources, along with a spacious and peaceful reading area. He further informed the students that weekly programmes would continue to be organized for their benefit.

Prizes were distributed to the winning students of the Skit, Treasure Hunt and Speed-Reading competitions as a token of appreciation and motivation.
