
Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 8: The Port Blair City Area Committee of CPI (M) has organized a Mass Dharna yesterday (7.10.2025) in front of the Chief Engineer APWD office at Port Blair, to protest against the bad condition of urban roads. Inaugurating the mass demonstration, D. Ayyappan, State Secretary of CPI (M) criticized the central government for not taking any concrete steps to carry out the repair and renovation of the roads in the islands. He said that the entire roads in the Municipal area are full of potholes, cracks and uneven surfaces, causing difficulties for the road users. A number of accidents are occurring in the islands due to the deteriorating condition of the roads. He blamed the BJP government for not allotting sufficient funds for renovation and repair of these roads.
Addressing the gathering, CPI (M) senior leader P. Banerjee said that with the advent of large scale corruption in government work, the condition of the roads in the islands have become worst.
P. Sathyapal, Secretary and NKP Nair, Member of Port Blair City Area Committee also addressed the gathering. Dr Gouranga Majhi, State Secretariat Member and SP Kalairajan, SOC Member were also present on the occasion. A large number of people participated in the mass demonstration.
