
Car Nicobar, Oct. 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nicobar organized a three-day Skill Development Training Programme on “Value Addition and Entrepreneurship in Horticulture” at Kakana village, Nicobar, from 13th to 15th October, 2025, with the participation of 33 beneficiaries.
The programme was inaugurated at Kakana village on 22nd September, 2025, in the presence of the First Headman of Kakana, local farmers, and participants. It was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Santosh Kumar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Nicobar, with the support and encouragement of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–CIARI, Port Blair, whose leadership and vision ensured the success of the initiative.
The technical sessions were handled by Dr. Akshay, Dr. Ajmal S., Dr. Sanketh G.D., and Mr. Deepoo Meena, who deliberated on various aspects of value addition in horticultural crops, processing and preservation techniques, product diversification, and entrepreneurship opportunities for rural youth and farmers.
The training successfully enhanced the skills of the participants in adopting improved practices and motivated them towards self-employment through horticulture-based enterprises. The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which the beneficiaries shared their experiences and expressed their willingness to adopt the learnings in their villages to improve income and livelihood opportunities.
