Awareness Programme on Substance Abuse Held at JNRM Under “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushaal Bharat” Campaign

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 15: An Awareness Programme on the Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse was organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare under the campaign “Nasha Mukt Bharat, Khushaal Bharat” at JNRM College, Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme aimed to sensitize students and faculty members about the harmful consequences of substance and psychoactive drug abuse and to promote a collective commitment towards building a healthy, addiction-free society. The programme was led by Ms. Ashrita Falia, Project Coordinator, NAPDDR.

The event was graced by Smti. Vijaya, Assistant Director, Directorate of Social Welfare; Shri A.K. Biswas, Nodal Officer, NAPDDR. B.Sc. final-year Geography students attended the programme. During the session, dignitaries highlighted and elaborated the ongoing initiatives of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, emphasizing the importance of community participation, law enforcement, and youth engagement in preventing substance abuse. They also discussed the adverse physical, psychological, and social impacts of drug dependence, the increasing prevalence of tobacco and synthetic drug use, and the need for continuous awareness and preventive education among young people.

As part of the event, certificates were distributed to the 2nd-year Home Science students who successfully completed their 30-day internship at the Directorate. Participants were also encouraged to take the “Nasha Mukt Bharat” pledge through a QR code, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.
