Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 2: The Deptt. of AH&VS is organizing a training programme for veterinarians and para-veterinary staff to strengthen the implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme across the islands. The initiative aims to equip the participants with the latest surgical techniques for the sterilization of male and female cats and dogs, thereby enhancing the effectiveness and humane management of the stray animal population.
Officials from the Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS) Organization, Coimbatore, will be visiting the Islands to conduct the training which will be held in two phases. The first phase is scheduled at Sri Vijaya Puram from Nov. 3 to 7, 2025, and the second phase at Swaraj Dweep from Nov. 10 to 14.
This capacity-building initiative reflects the Department’s continued commitment to animal welfare and scientific management of the ABC programme through the adoption of modern veterinary practices and collaboration with expert organizations.
