Directorate of IP&T to Alter Timings of Sound & Light Show at National Memorial in View of Surge in Visitor Arrivals

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 7: With the tourist season in full swing, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are witnessing a surge in visitor arrivals at major heritage and scenic destinations. One of the most popular attractions, the Sound & Light Show at the National Memorial Cellular Jail, has been drawing large crowds eager to experience the moving narration of India’s freedom struggle.

In view of the rising demand and to ensure a smoother visitor experience, the Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T) has introduced an additional Hindi show from today. The new show willis being held from 8.50 PM to 9.30 PM, alongside the existing shows scheduled at 5.50 PM, 6.50 PM, and 7.50 PM. With this addition, a total of four shows will now be conducted each evening.

For the convenience of tourists, online ticket booking has been made available through the official tourism website: https://www.andamantourism.gov.in/etourist/.

The Directorate has further informed that it is in the process of rescheduling the show timings, proposing to advance each show by 20 minutes, starting from 5.30 PM onwards. This adjustment aims to better regulate visitor flow and optimize viewing schedules, particularly during the ongoing peak tourist season.

The initiative by the Directorate of IP&T has been widely appreciated by visitors, many of whom earlier faced difficulties securing seats due to full occupancy during peak hours. The additional show is expected to ease congestion, improve overall viewing comfort, and allow more tourists to witness the stirring historical narrative of the Cellular Jail- a national monument that stands as a solemn tribute to the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters.

The Administration has urged visitors to use the online booking facility to ensure smooth entry and avoid last-minute rush. The introduction of the additional show and the proposed rescheduling of timings reflect the growing vibrancy of tourism in the Islands and underscore the Administration’s proactive approach towards enhancing visitor experience.
