AH&VS Distributes Vanaraja Chicks to Farmers of Baratang Village

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 8: As part of the ongoing efforts to promote backyard poultry farming and enhance rural livelihood opportunities, the Department of Animal Husbandry distributed 300 Nos. of reared Vanaraja chicks of 4 weeks of age and 100 Nos. Day old Vanaraja Chicks to the farmers of Baratang Village on Nov. 7. The chicks were supplied from the Government Poultry Farm & Central Hatchery, Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj. Altogether 400 nos. chicks were supplied to 23 nos. of farmers.

The initiative aims to encourage small and marginal farmers to adopt backyard poultry farming as an additional source of income and nutritional support. Vanaraja birds are well suited for backyard rearing under rural conditions. They are hardy, disease-resistant, and capable of thriving on locally available feed resources. The breed is known for its dual-purpose utility, providing both good quality meat and a moderate level of egg production.

The Department continues its commitment to promote sustainable poultry development by supplying improved backyard poultry varieties like Vanaraja to different parts of the Islands in a phased manner.
