
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 12: The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Andaman College (ANCOL) organized an Electoral Awareness Programme today as part of its on-going initiatives to promote voter awareness and participation among students. The programme concentrated more on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in which the resource persons through a power point presentation enlightened the students about the importance of SIR, the enumeration process currently underway by the BLOs and how to fill the Enumeration Form with ease. The students were also urged for disseminating the information as ambassadors regarding the current SIR in progress to their friends, relatives and in the society and also guide them to fill the form. It was informed to the students that the goal of the SIR exercise is to ensure that ‘No eligible voter is left out and no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.’
In his address on the occasion, Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal, ANCOL, emphasized the importance of youth engagement in the democratic process.
Dr. N. Balakrishnan, Nodal Officer (SVEEP), graced the occasion as the guest of honour and highlighted various Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities conducted across the Islands to strengthen electoral literacy. He urged the ANCOL students to register themselves as voters so that they can also participate in the democratic process by voting in the elections.
Dr. R. P. Palanisamy, Nodal Officer, ELC, JNRM, also addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of ANCOL’s ELC in fostering civic responsibility among students.
The resource persons, Shri. Rajaram and Shri. Senthil, delivered insightful sessions on the importance of voting and the role of responsible citizens in strengthening democracy. Around 100 students actively participated in the programme, engaging in discussions and awareness activities.
