Science Centre Celebrates Birth Anniversary of Legendary Ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 12: The Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, celebrated the birth anniversary of the legendary ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, fondly known as the Birdman of India, in a befitting manner today. As part of the celebration, a Bird Watching Programme was organized for school students to foster awareness about avian diversity and the importance of conservation. Selected students were taken to Chidyatapu, a place renowned for its rich avian fauna, to observe and study birds in their natural habitat.

During the field visit, students were guided on bird identification techniques and their significance in maintaining ecological balance. The nature walk proved to be both educational and exciting, as the participants identified a variety of bird species including the Hill Myna, Parrot, Kingfisher, Green Imperial Pigeon, Drongo, Dove, Oriole and many others.

Following the tour, a feedback test was conducted on the field to assess the students’ learning and observation skills. Based on their performance Kumari Saanvi Bhan of V.K.V. Lamba line secured the First prize, followed by Kumari Asma H of Sagritara School Secured the second prize, Kumar T Harshit of Nirmala Sr. Sec. School Secured the Third Prize and Kumari M. Swetha of R.G.T. Public Vidyalaya adjusted as consolation prize winners respectively.

The event successfully combined education with field experience, inspiring young minds to appreciate the beauty of nature and the importance of avian conservation—truly reflecting the spirit of Dr. Salim Ali’s lifelong work.
