TSG Bhasker Requests for Urgent Renovation and Infrastructure Development at Nicobari Home, South Point

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 12: Mr. TSG. Bhasker, Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has written to the Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, requesting immediate renovation, maintenance, and infrastructure development at the Nicobari Home located at South Point, Sri Vijaya Puram.

In his communication, Mr. Bhasker expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Secretary for visiting the Nicobari Home in September 2025 and for patiently listening to the grievances of the Nicobari tribal community. He stated that the visit had brought immense encouragement and hope to the Nicobarese people.

Mr. Bhasker emphasized that the Nicobari Home is not merely a residential facility but a vital symbol of cultural identity for the Nicobari community. It serves as an essential support center for patients and their families from the Nicobar group of islands who come to Port Blair for medical treatment. The premises also function as a venue for community gatherings and condolence meetings.

He further pointed out that the building is currently in a dilapidated condition and urgently requires renovation, maintenance, and safety upgrades to preserve its functionality and dignity. Mr. Bhasker urged that the repair and restoration works be carried out in a time-bound manner.

Additionally, he proposed the creation of essential facilities, including rooms for referred patients, a mortuary room, a store shed, and a coffin-making shed within the premises to meet the ongoing needs of the Nicobari community.

Mr. Bhasker concluded by appealing to the Administration to intervene and expedite the necessary works at the earliest, reaffirming his gratitude for the Chief Secretary’s continued support and concern for the welfare of the Nicobarese community.
