Hyderabad, Nov. 13: The World Aquaculture India 2025, held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre from 10th to 13th November, 2025, served as a premier national platform to showcase innovations and sustainable practices shaping India’s fisheries and aquaculture sector. The event brought together fish farmers, policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on advancing the blue economy through technology, collaboration, and resource optimization.
The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration, made a significant mark at this global-level summit by actively participating in the Fish Farmers Conclave, organized as part of the event. The conclave provided an excellent opportunity for the Islands to highlight their emerging role in India’s aquaculture landscape and to share best practices from the region’s thriving fisheries initiatives.
Adding to the pride of the Islands, Shri D. Potaiah, a progressive fish farmer from Mannarghat, was felicitated by Shri Vakiti Srihari, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Government of Telangana, for his remarkable contribution to the Coastal Aquaculture sector of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. His recognition as a Progressive Fish Farmer stands as a testament to his pioneering efforts in sustainable shrimp farming and to the growing success of community-led aquaculture development in the Islands. Total five progressive farmers deputed by A&N Administration also participated in the conclave from the Islands.
A key highlight of the participation was the presentation delivered by Ms. Jagtap Kalyani Rajendra, Director of Fisheries, A&N Administration, during a parallel session organized by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) on “Marine Product Export Potential of A&N Islands.” Her address drew widespread attention as she elaborated on the immense export potential of the Islands’ Tuna resources, emphasizing value addition, sustainable harvesting, Mariculture possibilities and market diversification. The session also featured a brainstorming discussion chaired by Shri D.V. Swamy, IAS, Chairman, MPEDA, which explored strategies to strengthen the Tuna value chain under the proposed Tuna Cluster initiative—a key step toward unlocking the Islands’ export competitiveness.
The active participation and recognition of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands at World Aquaculture India 2025 underscore the Administration’s steadfast commitment to empowering fish farmers, promoting innovation, and positioning the Islands as a vital contributor to India’s Blue Economy growth story.
