Member of Parliament and Chief Secretary Jointly Inaugurate the Much Awaited Saras Mela 2025

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 14: The much awaited Saras Mela 2025 at ITF Ground was jointly inaugurated by Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands and Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, in the presence of Smt. Geeta Rani Verma, IPS, IGP and other dignitaries of the Administration amidst great enthusiasm and participation from SHGs, artisans, and visitors from across the Islands and three other States.

The event was graced by Shri. Rajesh Chopra, Secretary (RD) & Dr. Apurva Sharma, Director (RD/P) and PRIs who commended the efforts of Rural Development Department and the SHG women for promoting traditional crafts, local products, and rural entrepreneurship.

Saras Mela 2025 showcases a vibrant range of handloom, handicrafts, organic food products, tribal crafts, traditional cuisines, and cultural performances, bringing together Self-Help Groups from various States of India. The mela aims to create marketing linkages, enhance livelihood opportunities, and celebrate India’s cultural diversity.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of empowering rural women through sustainable livelihood activities and appreciated the role of SHGs in strengthening the rural economy.

The Mela will remain open for the public in the coming days, offering a unique opportunity to experience the richness of rural India under one roof.
