Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 17: Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council demonstrated a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal waste disposal by taking swift punitive action against a private individual for illegally dumping garbage near Carmel Senior Secondary School yesterday.
The action was initiated after the Council received a complaint, which was further amplified through social media platforms, regarding a carriage auto rickshaw discarding waste in an unauthorized manner. Responding promptly to the public concern, the SVPMC immediately deployed a team of officials to the site for verification.
In a coordinated effort with local police personnel, a thorough investigation was conducted. The investigation successfully identified and traced the carriage auto rickshaw to a private owner. The identified defaulter was held accountable and was compelled to clear the entire illegally dumped waste from the site. The clean-up was conducted under the supervision of SVPMC officials Shri. Vijay Kumar, Senior Sanitary Inspector, Ward No. 06 along with Ward staff, ensuring proper segregation of the waste as per municipal norms.
Furthermore, a stringent financial penalty of Rs. 2,000 was imposed on the offender under the relevant provisions of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Bye-laws. Additionally, SVPMC notes that a similar violation was penalised on Nov. 13 & 17 at Ward No. 03, reflecting the Council’s zero-tolerance approach towards illegal dumping.
The SVPMC reaffirms its commitment to upholding cleanliness standards and will continue to take appropriate and punitive action against any such illegal activities in the future.
