IGNOU Celebrates its 40th Foundation Day

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 19: The IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair at Sr Vijaya Puram celebrated the 40th Foundation Day of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at its premise on 19th November, 2025. The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a Central University established in 1985, by an Act of Parliament, to meet the educational needs of millions of people. The greatest achievement of IGNOU is to reach the ‘unreached’ sections of India such as IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair with 08 active Learner Support Centres spread in different Islands of Andaman and Nicobar. The A++ grade by NAAC and NIRF ranked #1 in category of Open Universities are the testimonials of its excellence.

On this promising occasion, Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob conveyed the greetings and well wishes to all the Regional Centre and Study Centres staffs, academic counsellors, IGNOU learners and alumni across the islands. In his message, Regional Director Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob reaffirmed the commitment to provide quality higher educational opportunities for all sections of the society in the Islands.

The academics, staffs and the learners of IGNOU Regional Centre- Port Blair attended the 40th IGNOU Foundation Day programme at Sri Vijaya Puram. Along with this, BVB Mondal Public Secondary School, Diglipur, North & Middle Andaman organized a successful Drawing Competition (Viksit Bharat) and Essay Writing Competition (Role of IGNOU in Educating Women) for the students to celebrate the 40th Foundation Day of IGNOU.
