
Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 26: Election Commissioner of India, Dr. Vivek Joshi, today presided over a meeting in the conference hall of the A&N Secretariat with the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands & District Election Officers regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, currently underway in A&N Islands. The SIR is an initiative by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to update and purify voter lists and its purpose is to create accurate and error-free voter lists by identifying and removing deceased, permanently shifted, and duplicate electors.
At the outset, the Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands, Shri L. Kumar, IAS welcomed the Election Commissioner, Dr. Vivek Joshi on his visit to A&N Islands. Thereafter, the CEO through a power point presentation gave a detail account of the SIR exercise being undertaken in A&N Islands with the sole aim to prepare a robust and accurate Electoral Roll, the objective of which is that “no eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll”.
The CEO stated that the number of electors as on 27.10.2025 is 3,10,404 out of which 1,60,523 are male, 1,49,877 are female and 4 are third gender. He further said that in order to complete the SIR exercise with utmost transparency DEO, ERO, AERO, BLO Supervisor, BLO & BLAs have been appointed. Training programmes have been conducted for AEROs, BLOs and BLO Supervisors in all the three Districts for the smooth conduct of the SIR exercise covering the length & breadth of A&N Islands. The CEO further informed that altogether, 3,10,346 Enumeration Forms have been distributed to the electors and 2,21,391 filled in forms have been collected as on 26.11.2025 (by 10 am). The Enumeration Forms digitised collected from the electors stands at 66.12 percent. The CEO also apprised the Election Commissioner about the meetings held with the Political Parties at the CEO, DEO, ERO and AERO levels. The political parties have also extended their cooperation & support by appointing around 800 Booth Level Agents, who are working in close coordination with the BLOs to support the enumeration work, the CEO added.
On reviewing the SIR exercise in A&N Islands, the Election Commissioner, Dr. Vivek Joshi said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is a strategic exercise by the Election Commission of India (ECI) aimed at thoroughly updating, verifying, removing and correcting the voter lists across India. Its goal is to ensure that the electoral roll is accurate, inclusive and free from errors such as duplicates, deceased voters, or ineligible entries. The Election Commissioner expressed his happiness that SIR exercise is being undertaken in A&N Islands in a systematic way as per the laid own guidelines of the Election Commission. He noted with appreciation that about 896 electors have filled the Enumeration Forms through online mode. While emphasizing the importance of inclusive elections, he urged officials to focus more on the leverage of technology for electoral services to facilitate youth voter enrolment. The Election Commissioner further stated that the Commission has further simplified the online search option for the mapping of electors with last SIR by name, relation, district adding transliteration option for easy search by visiting ECI portal : https://voters.eci.gov.in/ .
