A&N Administration Invites Suggestions for Naming Newly Explored Islands/ Rocks of A&N Archipelago

Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 1: The Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has initiated the process of assigning names to previously unnamed Islands & rocks and standardizing similar names of existing Islands & rocks. This exercise covers 596 out of the 836 Islands and rocks that constitute the Andaman & Nicobar archipelago.

The general public, members of tribal communities, ex-servicemen, students, teachers, historians, environmentalists have been invited to send their valuable suggestions for naming of these Islands/rocks. Names may reflect local tribal heritage, freedom fighters, eminent personalities, martyrs, unique flora & fauna, geographical features, historical events of national importance or any other theme considered appropriate.

Suggestions, along with a brief justification (not exceeding 200 words), has been invited within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice by hand / through mail at artand.culture@and.nic.in or through registered post addressed to ‘The Director, Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration, Cellular Jail Complex, Atlanta Point- 744101’, issued in public interest by the Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration.
