Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 1: The Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority, in association with the District Legal Services Authority, organized a Legal Awareness Programme to observe World AIDS Day today at JNRM. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the college student community.
The event was graced by Shri Rashid Alam, Ld. Registrar, Calcutta High Court, Circuit Bench at Port Blair, Shri Anupam Sircar, Ld. Judicial Magistrate First Class, Additional Court, Port Blair and Shri Jayanta Mukherjee, Ld. Judicial Magistrate First Class, 2nd Court, Port Blair.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted important aspects related to HIV/AIDS, such as modes of transmission and preventive measures; scientific understanding and common misconceptions; importance of timely testing, treatment, and counselling; eliminating stigma and discrimination against persons living with HIV/AIDS; rights, entitlements, and legal protections available to AIDS patients; and various legal aid services and welfare schemes offered by DLSA.
They stressed on the need for awareness, compassion, and collective responsibility towards creating an inclusive society for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS. The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which students actively engaged with queries and discussions.
